the shape of us
the waiting room
The Waiting Room Gallery and Third Pine Collective (TPC) present The Shape of Us, a group exhibition featuring nine Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) artists, curated by Xiao daCunha, Hùng Lê, and Thanat Singhirunnusorn. Taking over the hallway gallery, The Shape of Us investigates how meaningful shapes serve as vehicles of memory, ancestry, culture, and identity.
The work in this interdisciplinary exhibition presents textiles, paintings, collages, assemblages, ceramics, and monoprints to visualize the many nuances of lived AANHPI experience and inherited histories. Participating artists turn cultural symbols, personal ephemera, modern objects, and geometric compositions into puzzle pieces that make up the complicated contemporary Asian American identity.
