Samantha Muas
BIO
Samantha Muas is a digital painter whose work embraces the quiet, simple moments of everyday life. A first-generation Hmong American born and raised in Fresno, California, she moved to Kansas City in 2016 to pursue an art education and later earned her Bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts with an emphasis in 2D storytelling from Pittsburg State University in 2022. Inspired by Studio Ghibli films, Muas enjoys portraying ordinary scenes in a magical and colorful way, with a style heavily influenced by cartoons, anime, and internet culture.
Growing up, the women in Muas’ family were the core and powerhouse of her upbringing, shaping the woman she is today. This influence is reflected in her work, where women are a central subject, embodying pieces of her identity and personal story. Although her work often appears cute and bubbly, Muas aims to create more serious pieces that reflect her experience as a Hmong American navigating both the diverse and divided sides of America. Currently working as a cake decorator in Kansas City, she hopes to continue expanding her personal work and become a full-time illustrator.
