Jingwei Zeng

Artist Statement

My artistic practice is a dialogue across time, space, and cultures, rooted in the literati aesthetics of Chinese calligraphy and painting while engaging contemporary global perspectives. Tracing lineages from Han and Wei dynasties through Ming and Qing literati traditions to modern Shanghai-style art, I explore the tension between tradition and innovation, East and West, past and present.

Guided by the principle of “harmony in diversity, universal beauty,” I seek to integrate humanistic reflection, cultural authenticity, and aesthetic rigor. My work balances spontaneity and restraint, classical brushwork and modern materials, conveying not only visual beauty but moral and philosophical depth. By adapting traditional literati techniques to depict Western landscapes, contemporary life, and cross-cultural narratives, I aim to create a universal language of artistic expression.
