A new solo exhibition by Third Pine Collective artist member, transmasc Korean-American artist Yekyoung Kim (@tokiun ) is opening at Buon Ban Mercantile this month. Titled “The Feral Souls (Within Us)”, the exhibition visualizes the profound spiritual connection between humans and animals.
In this exhibition, Kim has created 16 mythical beasts from Eastern and Western folklores, tales, legends, and fantasy literature, such as phoenixes, unicorns, and dragons. “Whether through anthropomorphism or fantasy, humans portray themselves using animals to create folktales or personal anecdotes,” says Kim. “This creates mystical beasts in various cultures, beings with the features of animals but more monstrous.”
